TITLE: FULL TIME CLERK
STATUS: OPEN TO PUBLIC

This is to advise that the position of full time Grade 3 Clerk is available in the Department of Community Development/ Division of Construction and Inspections (aka Building Department).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of computer systems, operations, and applications. Spatial Data Logic a plus. Receipts and records departmental monetary transactions.
Required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Ability to do typing and/or keyboard from varied types of copy. Ability to maintain records & files.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to learn assigned tasks readily and adhere to prescribed routines.
Ability to work effectively with associates, supervisors, and members of the public concerned with the work of the department.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to make arithmetic calculations and tabulations.
Knowledge of office methods, practices, routines, machines, equipment, and of the internal organization after a period of training.
Must be willing to, and eligible to, be bonded by surety company.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Ability to receive, receipt, disburse, and resolve monetary transactions accurately. Ability to type and/or keyboard accurately. (40 – 45 words per minute)
Prepares and maintains all necessary departmental forms for distribution as required. Composes and types correspondence.
Prepares and processes documents, which may include requisitions, purchase orders, bills, receipts, permits, licenses, and any other documents which are kept in the normal course of business.
Addresses, stamps, and mails department correspondence.
Hand stamps letters, papers, & other documents, & sorts & files cards, letters, forms and other documents.
Answers the telephone and takes messages accurately. Maintains mailing lists.
Assists in locating and compiling data for reports. Compiles and tabulates numerical data.
Maintains essential records and files.
Performs other assignments at the discretion of the employee’s supervisor on an as needed basis.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Issues and processes permits and schedules inspections.
Assists the public with the permit process and general information. Issues permit violation notices.
Maintains records of permits and violations for each lot and block of the Township. Processes reports from other governmental agencies.

Under the provisions of the existing Toms River Professional Association (AFSCME) contract regarding white-collar positions, the employer agrees to review applications for promotions or transfers from present TRPA Union employees prior to reviewing applications from other than Township employees. Outside applicants will only be considered when current union employees do not have the necessary qualifications.

Grade: 3 without certification/ Grade 6 with certification
Salary Range:
$35,606.87-$69,744.88
Pay: $35,606.87 - $69,744.88 per year
