What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Utility Technician position at Township of East Brunswick?
The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for a full-time Water Utility Technician within the Department of Water & Sewer. Under the supervision of the Water Maintenance Coordinator, this role will oversee the overall operation of the distribution network and the equipment required for preforming a wide variety of underground pipeline system constriction, repairs, and distributed potable water to the consumer. Repair and maintenance of water infrastructure includes but not limited to mains, valves, service lines, hydrants, sewer mains, sewer laterals, and sewer pump stations. Responsibilities also include maintaining machinery, tools, materials, and other supplies; writing reports of completed work; observing and making field investigations of new main or tap orders; checking pressure, chlorination, and bacteriological samplings; and additional duties as assigned. This position requires responding to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Must be able to understand the Township’s water distribution network, policies & procedures, as well as state and federal regulations application to the areas but not limited to SDWA, PEOSH, and Right to Know; use and have proper operation of common hand and power tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in water installation; acquire knowledge of installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing a variety of underground pipelines and related facilities; read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English.
Experience & Education: Entry level. High school diploma and/or equivalent required. Supplemental courses in water are a plus.
Licensing & Certification: Valid NJ driver’s license; CDL Class B license with air brake and tankers endorsement; NJ State licenses for water and/or sewer is preferred.
