What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Safety Property / Evidence Custodian position at Township of East Brunswick?
The Township of East Brunswick is accepting applications for the part-time position of Property/Evidence Custodian within the Department of Public Safety. Under supervision within the Investigative Division, the Property/Evidence Custodian will receive, maintain, inspect, document, store, and preserve a vast array of abandoned, found, seized, and evidentiary property or evidence in accordance with the Department policy and as prescribed by the State and Federal law. Additional responsibilities include record keeping, arranging for the transference of evidence, conducting property function training, and additional tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Must have organizational skills, an ability to communicate effectively, and working knowledge and proficiency in computers and computer-based software. Must have basic knowledge of the functions of a municipal law enforcement agency; applicable laws, statutes, policies, and procedures of evidence collection, processing, and disposal; NCIC/ATS/ACS/CJIS, Promis Gavel, and other state and federal computer databases of the ability to learn them. Must have the ability to work effectively under minimal supervision; maintain a keen attention to detail; maintain working relationships with fellow employees and the public; and the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to preform the duties of this position.
Experience: Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
Licensing & Certification: Valid NJ driver’s license
