Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $16.30 - $21.15 per hour, which increases based on year of service and experience.
Work Schedule: Generally, Monday-Friday with some nights/weekends, and possible holiday assignments as scheduled programs dictate; not to exceed 40 hours per week.
NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Recreation Division, individuals in this position assist in the development, planning, supervision, and implementation of recreation programs, creating a positive, encouraging experience for participants. This individual will work collaboratively with various Recreation programs to continually improve operations and receive a well-rounded experience.
The days of work and hours will include Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends, April - September in accordance with scheduled programs and trips; not to exceed 40 hours per week. The general schedule will be given at the date of hire and can be adjusted based on the student’s class schedule. This temporary employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the town but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). This is strictly temporary employment.
Please note that town employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one classification at any one given time.

- May develop and implement program plans with direction from supervisor as requested.
- Co-lead or lead programs or trips as assigned, depending on complexity.
- Set up, distribute, and collect materials and equipment for programs.
- Assist in the creation, implementation, and coordination of community special events & programs, including but not limited to, Summer Concert Series, Farmers Market; preschool, youth & teen programs; Day Camp; athletic programming; and nature-focused programming.
- Provide coaching, guidance, supervision, and instruction to facilitate appropriate participation in activities.
- Control groups of participants, including monitoring them and their ability to ensure proper use of equipment and techniques.
- Participate in programs with participants as needed.
- Strive to adapt programs to the unique needs of the participants.
- Demonstrate good judgment and serve as a role model for positive and appropriate behavior through speech and action.
- Redirect negative/undesired behaviors from participants as needed.
- Maintain participant attendance during activities.
- Inventory and manage program equipment and supplies including vehicles, keys, town credit card, general activity supplies, and other town-owned property, as well as assist Recreation Coordinator in any needed equipment repair.
- Assist with the promotion of programs, trips, and special events, including creating content for social media, newsletters, etc. as needed.
- Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Serve as a resource for families, providers, and participants who have questions, suggestions, or areas of concern, and communicate summary with Recreation Coordinator.
- Represent the town in a positive, professional, and healthy manner.
- Adhere to town policies, standards, and regulations, including but not limited to proper attire, safety procedures, and overall professionalism.
- Ensures adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
- Performs related work as required and assigned.
Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
- Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology, tools, market research, programs, etc.
- Participate in required staff training and meetings.
- Work programs, events, and trips as scheduled.
- Submit hours and accurate timecards on time and in compliance with town policies.
- Give and receive constructive criticism and feedback.
- Perform minor first aid and emergency contact as necessary.
- Complete and submit accident/incident reports as necessary.
- May be involved in special projects that are directly or indirectly related to essential job functions.
- Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town.
- Assists other programs & town departments/divisions as necessary.
- At least 16 years of age.
- Experience in a customer service setting – preferred.
- Some previous Point of Sale or cash handling experience preferred.
- Experience with MS Office, specifically Word, and Excel (School experience acceptable)
