The Town of St. Albans is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and service-driven Zoning Administrator to play a key role in guiding responsible development and preserving the character of our community.
About the Role
The Zoning Administrator serves as the Town’s primary resource for zoning and land use regulations. This position works closely with residents, developers, and Town boards to ensure projects align with local ordinances and Vermont statutes.

Key Responsibilities
- Administer and enforce the Town’s zoning bylaws and land use regulations
- Review and issue zoning permits and certificates of compliance
- Provide guidance to property owners, contractors, and developers
- Support the Development Review Board (DRB) and Planning Commission
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and zoning files
- Assist with updates to zoning bylaws and long-range planning initiatives
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in zoning, planning, code enforcement, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of land use regulations and municipal processes (Vermont experience preferred)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to interpret regulations and apply them fairly and consistently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with Town staff and boards
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, environmental studies, or related field
- Municipal experience or familiarity with Vermont zoning laws
- Certification or willingness to obtain zoning/planning certification
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $60,000 – $68,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience
