What are the responsibilities and job description for the Town Planner/Community Development Director position at Town of South Berwick, Maine?
The Town of South Berwick is accepting applications for a Full-Time (40 hours/week) Town Planner/Community Development Director. This is a professional administrative and technical position in the field of Municipal Planning and Community Development. Work involves land use planning, providing technical and professional assistance to the Planning Board, Town staff liaison for the Comprehensive Plan/Committee, Downtown Revitalization Plan/Committee, the Economic Development Plan/Committee, and the Planning Board.
This position will be responsible for researching, developing, coordinating and administering land use and planning related projects; creating and supervising the implementation of an economic development program to encourage community improvement activities; maintaining accurate records; developing and maintaining a long-term strategic plan, general administration of the department and programs, and serving as lead staff for Tax Increment Financing (TIF), and managing the TIF Development Programs and budgets. The candidate will have practical working experience with fostering community economic development opportunities as identified and prioritized by the Town Council and Town Manager.
This position works closely and collaboratively with other staff including the Code Enforcement Officer and the Assessing Agent. Knowledge of grantsmanship including grant development, writing, and budget development.
Requirements
Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in planning, public policy or administration, engineering, or a closely related field, and/or
- Five (5) years of significant experience in the field of public planning and/or economic development of which two (2) must be at the supervisory or office administration level.
- An advanced degree is desired, but not required.
- Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience to perform the job.
Salary & Benefits
This is a Full-time (40 hours/week), non-union and exempt position. Starting pay will be between $90,000 – $110,000, depending on experience.
