JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Positions assigned to this classification are responsible for assisting with routine maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep activities at Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre. Under supervision, employees help maintain facilities, equipment, grounds, and livestock areas to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for staff, visitors, and animals. Duties include assisting with preventive maintenance, event setup and breakdown, basic repairs, grounds maintenance, and other tasks that support the daily operation of the equestrian center.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry-level classification within the Maintenance and Operations job family assigned to Horseshoe Park & Equestrian Centre. Employees perform routine maintenance, repair, grounds, arena, and facility upkeep tasks using established methods, procedures, and safe work practices. Employees work under close to general supervision and assist higher-level maintenance staff with preventive maintenance, basic repairs, facility upkeep, event support, grounds maintenance, and operation of assigned vehicles and equipment. Work requires basic maintenance skills, the safe use of standard hand and power tools, physical labor in indoor and outdoor environments, and effective communication with coworkers, supervisors, event staff, vendors, participants, and the public.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification.  While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.

  • Assists with arena setup, teardown, and event preparation, including installation, transport, and storage of arena panels, gates, barriers, and equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance, horticultural work, cleanup, and minor repairs for arenas, barns, stalls, pens, trails, athletic fields, grounds, and other park facilities.
  • Supports events by addressing routine facility needs and maintaining clean, safe conditions for staff, participants, visitors, and animals.
  • Inspects facilities, grounds, equipment, and livestock areas; identifies and reports hazards, maintenance needs, and repair requirements.
  • Operates light/heavy equipment and hand/power tools, including utility vehicles, skid steers, forklifts, tractors, water trucks, arena grooming equipment, blowers, pressure washers, pumps, and paint equipment.
  • Loads, transports, and distributes footing, gravel, sand, bedding, tools, supplies, and other materials.
  • Maintains equipment, vehicles, tools, machinery, and work areas in clean, safe, and organized condition; assists with inventory.
  • Maintains basic records and documentation; follows safety, traffic, equipment, and PPE requirements.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Driver’s License;
  • Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.

KNOWLEDGE
  • Basic methods, materials, tools, and safe work practices used in facility, arena, grounds and general maintenance.
  • Basic maintenance and repair techniques applicable to equestrian facilities, arenas, barns, stalls, pens, trails, and related infrastructure.
  • Basic operation, inspection, care, and safe use of hand tools, power tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
  • Safe operation of vehicles and equipment in accordance with established procedures and applicable traffic laws and regulations.
  • Basic customer service principles and practices when working with staff, event participants, vendors, visitors, and the public.
  • Occupational hazards and safe work practices related to maintenance, grounds, arena, livestock-area, equipment, and event-support activities.
  • Cleaning methods, materials, chemicals, applications, and protective equipment.
  • Basic inventory, recordkeeping, standard office equipment, and computer applications relevant to assigned duties.
SKILLS
  • Operating light and heavy equipment, vehicles, hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment;
  • Performing unskilled and semi-skilled facility, grounds, arena, barn, livestock, and trail maintenance, including event setup, teardown, and operational support;
  • Recognizing and reporting safety hazards, maintenance needs, and equipment problems, and following established safety procedures and work instructions;
  • Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, event staff, vendors, contractors, event participants, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
  • Basic computer and recordkeeping skills sufficient to complete work records, documentation, and routine office tasks.
