Expected Starting Salary Hiring Range: $39,262 to $44,170
Starting Salary Depending on Experience and Qualifications
Under direct supervision, performs general manual labor, repairs and maintains public rights-of-way including streets, sidewalks, drainageways, and Town properties.
- Performs general street maintenance including patching potholes, sealing cracks and preparing for seal coating.
- Removes and replaces concrete by operating light equipment; cutting and breaking out damaged concrete; setting forms and pre-subgrade area; mixing, pouring and finishing concrete.
- Removes and replaces asphalt; cuts asphalt; prepares and compacts subgrade, installs new asphalt.
- Performs vegetation maintenance via removing and trimming vegetation and weeds in town right of ways and drainage ways.
- Operates equipment for use in maintaining streets to include cleaning up after storms and hauling off debris.
- Cleans and maintains shop work areas.
- Loads and unloads materials.
- Operates a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment in a safe manner associated with the care, maintenance and upkeep of town roads, streets, lots, and other town assets.
- Inspects and maintains tools and equipment.
- May operate Gannon tractor, backhoe, kick broom, and steel wheel and/or rubber tire rollers.
- Follows standard safety operating procedures and practices.
- Installs, maintains, removes and ensures the proper placement and use of barricades and signs per approved safety plan.
- Loads and unloads work vehicles, equipment, supplies, material and cleans up work area, grease and fuels equipment.
- Operates a variety of vehicles and non CDL equipment associated with the care, maintenance and upkeep of Town roads, streets, parking lots, sidewalks and other areas.
- Inspects streets for possible problems or hazards including potholes, low hanging branches and debris on streets.
- Uses proper safety techniques on the maintenance and repair of hand and power tools.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
- Ability to accurately interpret instructions and document reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to exercise safety precautions and conform to safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, applicable Town, State and Federal statutes, ordinances, codes, rules and regulations governing construction, basic equipment operation and street maintenance.
- Knowledge of basic occupational and work zone hazards and safety practices.
- Basic knowledge of operation, care and maintenance of vehicles and/or light equipment.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, street/highway maintenance, repair and construction and work zone practices, as well as Town and Department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn safely operating light equipment, vehicles, power tools and hand tools.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have six months of full-time outdoor labor experience.
- Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Regular daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
- Work is performed in an outdoor environment, in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work in a daylight and night environment.
- Must be able to work in hazardous or dangerous work areas or situations.
- Must be able to work outdoors in extremely hot, cold, dry, or wet conditions.
- Must be able to get into and out of vehicles and/or equipment.
- Must be capable of working under stressful situations including operation of equipment and/or vehicles in heavy traffic or in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, drag, or push boxes or equipment up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to stoop, bend, stretch, twist, reach, kneel, squat, and balance.
