Company Description The Town of McCordsville is a local governmental entity serving residents and businesses in McCordsville, Indiana. Located at 6280 Vail Road, McCordsville, IN, the Town provides municipal services and supports community growth and development. Town staff work collaboratively to ensure efficient operations, responsive public service, and compliance with local regulations. Duties and Responsibilities (include but not are not necessarily limited to):      

  • Compliance with the Code of Conduct and Ethics as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality and highest ethical standards.
  • Interacts daily with contractors and/or developers on several Town projects, predominantly residential, during construction to ensure construction per approved plans, Town standards and specifications as well as state and federal codes.

·        Conducts plan and permit reviews for code compliance.

·        Issues permits, payment invoices, and Certificate of Occupancies.

·        Answers routine procedural inquiries from the general public and applicants regarding permitting, inspection procedures, and code questions.

·        Tracking of individual PUD and other Architectural requirements are met by incoming projects.

·        Tracking of Anti-monotony standards for incoming projects.

·        Ability to read and understand the purpose of different construction documents and maps.

·        Assists with the development and implementation of the Town’s inspection software.

·        Develops standard operating procedures to ensure tasks are completed correctly.

·        Assists town staff with Code Enforcement procedures.

·        Provides backup support to the Administrative Assistant by cross-training on essential departmental administrative functions and assisting with those duties as needed to ensure continuity of operations.

·        Other duties assigned by the Building Commissioner, Assistant Director of Planning, or Director of Planning & Building

Other Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must be comfortable using computers, tablets, and smartphones and common business applications. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. The Town uses permitting and record management software; the ability to quickly learn and effectively use these systems is required. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.


Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; and walk. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds.

·        Work is performed, primary in an office environment, but some field work may be necessary

·        Field work may require travel to construction sites at developed, undeveloped, or developing properties in varying weather conditions

·        The employee may be occasionally exposed to construction equipment, moving machinery, uneven terrain, and other conditions typical of active construction sites

·        Noise levels range from moderate in an office setting to loud on construction sites.

·        Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when conducting field inspections or visiting construction sites.


Education: High school diploma or GED is required. 


Experience: Experience as a building inspector, construction manager, construction coordinator, database management, permit technician, entitlement specialist, regulatory compliance, document intake, records management, urban planning, or similar field is preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may be called upon to provide guidance and training.

Compensation:   

  • $24/hr based upon qualifications (DOQ)
  • Enrollment in Public Employee's Retirement Fund (PERF) (Town pays employee contribution)

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) Prorated @ 13.33 hours/month for first year; 160 hours after first year (anniversary date)
