Duties
- Read and record utility meters using handheld meter reading devices, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Locate underground utilities using utility locating equipment to prevent damage during field operations.
- Perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on meters and related equipment, including power tools and low voltage systems.
- Use mechanical skills to repair or replace faulty meters, cabling, or associated hardware in the field.
- Operate bucket trucks, ladders, or climbing equipment safely for access to elevated meters or infrastructure.
- Conduct manual handling of heavy meters and equipment while following safety protocols for lifting and transportation.
- Document all readings, maintenance activities, and inspections accurately in digital systems while adhering to DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and NEC (National Electrical Code) standards.
- Engage with customers professionally during meter readings, addressing inquiries or concerns with excellent customer service skills.
- Follow safety procedures rigorously during outdoor work, including proper use of hand tools, power tools, and personal protective equipment.
- Assist with cabling installation or repairs as needed for low voltage electrical systems within utility infrastructure.
Experience
- Proven experience working in the energy & utilities sector or related field service roles.
- Familiarity with utility locating techniques and equipment operation.
- Hands-on experience with maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO), including troubleshooting electrical or mechanical issues.
- Knowledge of NEC standards, DOT regulations, safety protocols, and outdoor work environments.
- Ability to operate handheld meter readers, power tools, bucket trucks, and other field service equipment safely.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience handling hand tools and performing manual tasks involving heavy lifting or climbing.
- Basic math skills for accurate measurement recording and data entry.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience driving commercial vehicles preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in diverse settings.
