Assessor’s Assistant
Nature and Scope of Position
The primary functions of this entry level position are to serve as the main point of contact for customer service and to perform a variety of tasks to support the assessment contractor. The position will perform duties of an increasingly complex and responsible nature relating to the preparation and maintenance of the Town of Hartland Grand List.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The following list is intended to be a representative, not comprehensive, list of the primary types of work which may be performed. Items not listed do not exclude them from the position.
- Provide direct customer service to the public regarding tax assessments and property questions via email, phone or in person
- Process property transactions using specialized software (training provided)
- Coordinate appraisal activities with assessment contractors
- Coordinate updates and information with tax mapping provider
- Process information related to use value appraisal (Current Use Program) (training provided)
General
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to use sound judgement, courtesy, and tact when interacting with the public
- Ability to prioritize and organize projects simultaneously
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
- Must be able to evaluate and solve problems both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to read, comprehend and follow written and verbal directions and instructions.
- Site inspections and training seminars require travel, walking through properties
Experience, Education, and Training
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.
- Training will be provided in the use of assessment concepts and specialized software
- Professional development is encouraged through the Vermont Property Assessor Certification program
