JOB SUMMARY
This position is engaged in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the town’s financial operations, including grant management, cash reconciliation and financial reporting by supporting the Finance Director in managing the fiscal operations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the Finance Director who outlines departmental policy, makes work assignments, and evaluates work. Performs duties with a high degree of independence, exercising judgment and excellent skill and tact in answering inquiries from department heads, employees, town officials, and members of the public.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Assists other department staff on specific requirements of their work. In the absence of the Finance Director, assumes all duties and responsibilities of that position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Assist the Finance Director in developing and monitoring the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy in all financial records.
- Performs grant administration and compliance reporting.
- Acts as backup to the Payroll Supervisor and Accounting Clerk in their absence.
8. 8. Work collaboratively with other town departments, municipal officials, vendors, and members of the public.
- May perform special assignments as requested.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Strong knowledge of payroll processing and AP/AR, including relevant laws and regulations.
Experience with budget preparation and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software (preferably BS&A) and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with a minimum of five years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a municipal setting OR any combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge and skills.
