Oversees assigned areas of professional library operations and programming. Reports to a Library Manager.
Note: Some evening and weekend/alternate hours required.
**There are two Librarian III assignments available: Training Librarian (Staff and Public Training) and Business Services Librarian.
Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university.
Four (4) years post master’s experience in professional library work. A minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity or demonstrated experience overseeing a project from inception to completion. Experience with Innovative Interfaces Sierra, BiblioCommons and fluency in a second language (Japanese or Spanish) preferred.
Incumbent will be required to complete an additional supervisory training course within one year of hire.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of current and emerging technology applications, integrated library system (ILS) collection management tools, e-readers, tablets, smart phones, electronic information systems, social media applications and other downloadable library content.
Proven ability to instruct patrons in the use of technology to access the catalog, databases, and online library services (downloadable library).
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and supervision in a flexible team environment.
Demonstrated project management and organizational skills.
Proven ability to deal tactfully, courteously and positively with diverse constituencies and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external groups.
Must be able to bend and reach and lift up to 25 pounds; ability to push library carts holding up to 100 pounds in materials.
Examination: 100% Training & Experience Assessment
The examination to determine a candidate's eligibility for the position will be a Training and Experience Assessment. Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates the work of the team, which evaluates and recommends digital, electronic and print products in order to ensure a balanced and appropriate collection; maintains collections and patron access; determines which collections should be promoted.
Provides excellent customer service, assisting patrons with the use of library materials and equipment to find the information they need.
Works with special groups in the community to target and deliver library services.
Participates in developing and implementing library programs.
Negotiates and facilitates contracts with vendors and oversees the delivery of services.
Prepares budget requests for materials and programming; works with team to establish priorities for allocating budgeted funds and ensures expenditures remain within budget.
Provides coverage for the essential responsibilities of the supervising manager during their absence.
Keeps current with professional publications, participates in professional dialogues, and regularly updates self-knowledge of information resources and library-related technology developments.
Supports Town policies and philosophies.
Performs related work as required.
