Qualifications
Experience and Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and five (5) years of experience, including two (2) years in a skilled nursing facility, convalescent or nursing home, hospital, or similar healthcare setting and two (2) years of infection prevention experience.
Active Connecticut RN license.
Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable local, state and federal regulations governing resident care in a skilled nursing facility.
Demonstrated knowledge of infection control principles, epidemiology, and microbiology.
Proven ability to deliver effective adult education programs and motivate staff.
Proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and the use of software to develop tracking mechanisms, audits, and special studies.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Proven ability to collect, organize, and maintain detailed infection-related data for tracking and reporting purposes.
Proven ability to deal tactfully and courteously with residents, families, colleagues, and the public.
Examination: 100% Training & Experience Assessment
The examination to determine a candidate's eligibility for the position will be a Training and Experience Assessment. Reports to: Deputy and Director of Nursing
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops, implements and evaluates the facility’s Infection Prevention in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
Educates staff on infection prevention practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Investigates and monitors causes of infections to identify trends and prevent outbreaks.
Maintains accurate records of infection surveillance data, including nature, cause, treatment and antibiotic usage.
Identifies and investigates unusual infections, emerging organisms, increased infection rates, and cluster or institutional outbreaks.
Updates nursing administration on pertinent concerns and to local, state and federal health departments, as required.
Chairs the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee, which meets quarterly.
Chairs the Infection Control Committee, as Infection Control Officer.
Collaborates with housekeeping, facilities and the multidisciplinary team to ensure environmental infection control measures are met.
Ensures that signage and educational materials are updated to reduce infection transmission among residents, staff and visitors.
Evaluates the facility to ensure adherence to infection prevention best practices and compliance with established policies, procedures and regulatory standards.
Performs other related duties as required.
