What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Town of Goshen?
WELCOME to Camp Cochipianee!
As a Camp Counselor, you will be an active participant in all camp activities and will assist your Camp Directors with a variety of daily tasks, all with the goal of creating a memorable and meaningful camp experience for your campers. Our Counselors interact with our campers throughout the entire day, helping them make friends, try new things, and generally caring for their well-being. The role of a Counselor is to participate, build relationships and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child.
Required: Must be at least 18 years of age. CPR/First Aid Certified OR willing to become certified before the summer begins. Preferred: - High School Diploma or GED. Experience working with youth in a recreational/camp setting and/or experience assisting with outdoor recreation activities geared toward youth is preferred.
Camp Counselor Qualities

Main duties include:
- Work with groups of campers and provide a fun, safe and exciting camp experience
- Approaching camper growth with passion and excitement
- Navigating groups of 12-20 campers through daily activities focused on various station themes including Arts & Crafts, Wilderness and Sports.
- Helping lead organized basecamp creations for your group of campers
- Working closely with other staff members to create fun camp games, songs and activities – and participating in all
- Assisting in daily camper check in and check out procedures
- Supporting and building positive group dynamics among campers
- Interacting with parents in a professional and energetic manner
- Helping to cultivate healthy self-esteem and a natural love for learning about nature
- Ensuring all campers are safe and have a positive experience in our program (this includes diligently following all safety guidelines and restrictions
- Exhibiting the and demonstrating through actions and words empathy, responsibility, initiative, collaboration, problem solving and emotion management, while also reinforcing these qualities in other staff and kids
Schedule
Required Training Dates:
June 18 - CPR/ AED/ First Aid Certification Class (If you are not up to date)
June 23 & 24 – All staff
Camp Dates: June 27-Aug 5 (6 weeks of fun!)
Mon-Fri 8am to 3pm (Wednesday staff meeting 3pm-3:30pm)
