About Rising Star Camp
Rising Star Camp is a specialized summer program serving youth ages 6–14 who may struggle in traditional camp settings. Our program provides a supportive, structured, and trauma-informed environment where campers build confidence, social skills, positive relationships, and independence through recreational and therapeutic-based programming.
Position Summary
The Rising Star Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising and leading a small group of campers throughout the summer program. Counselors act as positive role models while helping campers participate successfully in daily activities, build friendships, and work toward personal goals in a safe and encouraging environment.
This position is ideal for individuals who are energetic, compassionate, patient, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a group of approximately 5–7 campers ages 6–14
- Facilitate daily group activities, goal setting, lunch supervision, and end-of-day wrap ups
- Plan and assist with activities including:
- Arts & Crafts
- Sports & Games
- Nature Activities
- Swimming Lessons / Superkids
- Supervise campers during field trips and off-site activities
- Participate in waterfront supervision and emergency procedures
- Assist with bus duty at designated pick-up/drop-off locations
- Encourage positive behavior and support campers in reaching personal goals
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, structured, and supportive camp environment
- Work collaboratively with camp leadership and fellow staff members
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for campers at all times
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Must be energetic, dependable, patient, and team-oriented
- Passion for working with children and youth, especially those needing additional support
- Ability to maintain professionalism and positive behavior at all times
- Experience working with children, camps, schools, or youth programs preferred
- Ability to participate in physical activities and outdoor programming
- Must complete all required YMCA trainings prior to camp

Physical Requirements
Candidates should be able to actively participate in camp activities, supervise children in indoor and outdoor settings, lift equipment and assist children when needed, and remain engaged throughout the camp day.
