The Utility Technician Senior reports to the Utility Supervisor. The primary job duties of this position include:
- Performing advanced maintenance, installation, inspection, and repair of the Water Distribution system, including water mains, service connections, valves, and fire hydrants.
- Responding to and repairing mainline breaks, conducting operational shut-downs for capital improvement projects, and fire line work.
- Performing technical duties such as locating underground water assets in streets, alleys, easements, and rights of way using GIS mapping tools.
- Operating a variety of heavy equipment, including excavation equipment, backhoes, and vacuum trucks.
- Leading and coordinating on-site crews to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant work practices.
- Mentoring and training Utility Worker I and II staff in equipment operation and Water Distribution maintenance procedures.
- Completing vehicle inspections, daily work logs, and electronic documentation using computers, tablets, and mobile devices.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Arizona drivers license
- One (1) year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in water/wastewater or related field
- Five (5) years or more of experience in operating heavy equipment and/or performing construction methods and practices related to underground utilities
- Two (2) years of lead worker, crew leader, or equivalent experience
- Ability to work varied shifts, including days or evenings, overtime as needed, and participate in an on-call rotation that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
- Must possess and maintain an ADEQ Water Distribution Grade II certification.
- Valid Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement required.
