Recreation Customer Service Specialist

The Town of Garner is seeking a creative, energetic parks and recreation professional to join the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department to support operations at the Garner Recreation Center. The position performs variety of customer service, facility operations, administrative, and program support duties at the recreation center. Serves as a primary point of contact for patrons and visitors by providing information, processing memberships, program registrations, and facility rentals, and assisting with questions and concerns. Ensures accurate collection and reconciliation of fees and maintains appropriate program and facility records. The position requires frequent interaction with the public, attention to detail, sound judgment, effective communication, and the ability to independently address routine facility and customer service needs. This position is typically scheduled Tuesday-Saturday.

Examples of Duties:

• Monitors the recreation center front desk; greets visitors; answers requests for information from the general public; verifies patron membership upon entry; provides information to patrons regarding facility reservation policies and procedures; provides tour of community center facility to potential members.
• Processes community center memberships and day passes; assists patrons with program registrations; collects fees and issues receipts ensuring accurate record-keeping; reconciles cash and prepares daily deposit.
• Monitors patron admittance and membership status; checks gym equipment in and out for use; monitors gymnasium and activity areas within the facility to ensure a safe environment; enforces established rules and regulations and proper usage of equipment.
• Schedules rentals and use of the facility and center rooms; processes rental paperwork; explains facility reservation policies and procedures and fee schedule.
• Assists in setting up and tearing down the gymnasium open gym; sets up ball racks and baskets.
• Assists patrons in the use of the recreation center; responds to complaints, problems, and request for information related to facility issues; refers some complaints to supervisor as needed.
• Arranges furniture and equipment for events and programs; sets up and takes down tables and chairs; ensures room lay out is correct.
• Maintains the recreation facility entry, lobby, rooms, and gymnasium are clean; reports any maintenance issues or safety concerns; picks up and takes trash out from gym and bathrooms.
• Operates, sets up and takes down A/V equipment, televisions, Bluetooth speakers for programs as needed; restocks supplies and materials.
• Assists in training and assisting part-time staff who work in the evening or weekends.
• Provides administrative staff with office support; prepares and maintains a variety of program records and files; registers patrons in RecDesk software; prepares regular and special reports as needed.
• Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Customer service or administrative experience
• A CPR and/or First Aid certification; or the ability to obtain the certification within 12 months of employment.

Preference will be given to applicants that have experience in a recreational facility.

Additional Information:

The salary posted is the hiring salary range for this position and will be determined based on qualifications.

This position is regularly scheduled to work Tuesday through Thursday from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the assigned schedule subject to operational needs.
