The Town of Foster, a close-knit rural community of approximately 4600 residents, is seeking an experienced, community-focused professional to serve as Chief of Police. The Chief of Police is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all operations of the Police Department while maintaining strong relationships with residents, local officials, and community organizations.
This position reports to the Town Council and provides leadership to a small department dedicated to public safety, community trust, and professional policing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, supervision, and management of all police department personnel and operations
- Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives
- Manage departmental budget, equipment, and resources responsibly
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and law enforcement standards
- Foster strong community relationships and promote community policing initiatives
- Coordinate with neighboring agencies, emergency services, and regional task forces
- Oversee training, recruitment, and professional development of department staff
- Prepare reports and present recommendations to Town Council
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field preferred
- Minimum 10 years of progressive law enforcement experience, including supervisory or command-level experience
- Strong leadership, communication, and community engagement skills
- Experience with budgeting, policy development, and departmental administration
- Currently active in the law enforcement field
Preferred
- Previous experience as a command officer (Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, or Chief)
- Experience working in rural or small-town policing environments
- Training in leadership, emergency management, or public administration
Salary & Benefits
- Salary range: 102,000 – $106,000, depending on qualifications and experience
