The starting rate of pay is $20.94 (min) to $26.83 (mid) hourly, eligible for overtime.

Experience with municipal government, recreation operations, cash handling, purchasing, or facility reservations is preferred.

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate administrative and operational support work for the Parks and Recreation Department, including facility reservations, financial processing, purchasing support, work-order coordination, records management, customer service, and assistance with departmental programs and events. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares correspondence, maintains departmental files and records, processes invoices and purchase documentation, enters data, schedules meetings, responds to telephone and email inquiries, and provides other administrative support to department leadership.
  • Assists the daytime operation of the Community Center Desk.
  • Serves as public contact for reservations of Assembly Hall, Community Center Room Rentals, Gymnasium Rentals, and Park Pavillions.
  • Assists with department financial processes to include Community Center Desk cash receipts and purchase processing within the accounting software.
  • Assists with budget preparation and purchase tracking.
  • Coordinates and submits all work orders to Public Works and Parks Maintenance.
  • Assists with department committees and the Volunteer Program.
  • Coordinates all Community Center and Park Pavilions rental set ups.
  • Assists with special events and programs as assigned to include Independence Day Parade and Light the Park.
  • Assists department managers with uniform coordination and billing.
  • Performs other duties and coordinates other projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

General knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques; general knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic; general knowledge of department programs and policies; general knowledge of standard computer software and hardware; general skill working in administrative support documents; general skill operating standard computer and peripheral equipment; ability to manage time and work within time constraints; ability to type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to operate standard office, word processing and data entry software; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively in oral form; ability to coordinate among elected officials; ability to create public presentations and marketing materials; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, town staff, elected officials, and the general public.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience working as an administrative assistant, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with municipal government, recreation operations, cash handling, purchasing, or facility reservations is preferred.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements

Ability to work occasional nights and weekends for programs and events as scheduled.

CPR/First Aid/AED certification within one year.

Valid driver's license in the State of Tennessee.
