Job Description
The Town of Falmouth seeks a full-time Assistant DPW Mechanic to support the Department of Public Works (DPW) Fleet Services Division by performing skilled maintenance and repair work on heavy equipment, Town trucks, and Town vehicles. This is a full-time, benefited position that works 40 hours per week year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Occasional after-hours work, including weekend work, is required on an overtime basis. Overtime worked between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. is compensated at double-time. The Town provides all required tools and equipment, including safety gear and equipment, and is pleased to provide a safe, stable, professional, and team-oriented work environment with comprehensive benefits.
Under the general direction of the Fleet Services Manager and the Master DPW Mechanics/Welders, the Assistant DPW Mechanic:
This position requires a Massachusetts Class A Commercial Driver's License. However, the Town is willing to provide training to the right candidate to help them obtain their CDL through our in-house CDL training program. The successful candidate must also have the ability to obtain OSHA-10 Certification within 180 days of hire and pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screening test. Additional certification in equipment repair is preferred.
Expected Starting Range: Step 1 ($29.74/hour) – Step 6 ($36.19/hour), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to grow along the 9-step pay scale. - Assists the Master DPW Mechanics/Welders in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, trucks, Police Department vehicles, Marine Environmental Services vehicles, Town Hall vehicles, and Public Works vehicles and equipment;
- Operates and repairs specialized equipment such as motorized power graders, high-pressure vacuum trucks, and other heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, front-end loaders, large rollers, catch basin cleaners, street sweepers, dump trucks, trailer trucks, tractor trucks, graders, air compressors, roadside mowers, and all other Public Works vehicles and equipment;
- Performs manual labor incidental to the work of operating assigned equipment. Services and maintains equipment in clean and serviceable condition;
- Operates vehicles and equipment for snow and ice control work. Mixes sand and salt. Loads trucks and hauls materials. May plow, sand, and salt sidewalks. May plow municipal parking lots and schools;
- Performs emergency highway repairs and other Public Works-related emergency repairs as required in varying weather conditions;
- Performs welding work as needed to assist the Master Mechanics/Welders; and
- Performs all other related work as required.
