This position also supervises public health staff and coordinates with other Town departments, healthcare providers, and community organizations.

The Director provides professional staff support to the Board of Health, manages inspections, develops health policies, oversees emergency preparedness, and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws. This position also supervises public health staff and coordinates with other Town departments, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Health, preparing agendas, reports, and policy recommendations.
- Oversee and enforce public and environmental health regulations, including food safety, septic systems (Title V), housing, hazardous waste, and disease control.
- Conduct inspections of restaurants, housing, recreational facilities, water supplies, and other public health areas.
- Supervise public health staff, including the Public Health Nurse and Administrative Clerk.
- Develop and manage department budget, prepare grants, and ensure cost-effective operations.
- Collaborate with local, state, and regional partners on health initiatives and emergency preparedness.
- Provide public health education, coordinate clinics, and respond to community concerns.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Community Nursing, Biological or Sanitary Sciences, or related field required. Master’s Degree in Public Health Policy, Administration, or Public Administration preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in public health programs with at least 1 year in an administrative capacity. Minimum of 5 years of Title V septic system experience required.
- Certifications (preferred): Registered Sanitarian, Certified Soil Evaluator, Certified Public Health Housing Inspector, Certified Food Manager, Pool Operator, MAVEN training.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills; proven ability to enforce regulations with tact and diplomacy; ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
