Social Worker, Elder Affairs

The Town of Cohasset is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our Elder Affairs team. Position Overview:
The Social Worker, reporting to the Elder Affairs Director, plays a key role in supporting older adults and their families in the Town of Cohasset. This position addresses the social, emotional, and physical challenges of aging that may affect an individual’s ability to live independently in the community. The Social Worker will respond to crises and complex situations, collaborating with senior center staff and community partners—including police, fire, the health department, and South Shore Elder Services—to assess needs and develop effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s level degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling. Must hold a current LCSW or LMHC license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. At least one year of experience working with older adults or in a mental health setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience (two or more years) working specifically with the elderly population and their families. Advanced knowledge of community resources for seniors. Demonstrated expertise in developing service plans, crisis intervention, and facilitating support groups for older adults.
Compensation & Benefits:
This is a part-time position classified as Grade A6, with a rate of $45.21/hr ± depending on experience. The Town of Cohasset offers a competitive salary.

- Evaluate the health, safety, and service needs of seniors, develop individualized service plans, coordinate with families and community agencies, and follow up on high-risk or chronic concerns. Participate in Outreach staff meetings.
- Respond to high-risk situations and crises affecting seniors, conduct office and home visits, involve community partners as needed, and file protective services reports as a mandated reporter.
- Assist senior center staff in managing challenging behaviors, maintain accurate records of interactions, and develop follow-up plans for high-risk clients.
- Plan and facilitate support groups and programs to meet the needs of the elderly population.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
