Reporting to the Community Services Supervisor, this position provides public safety by ensuring safe student crossing at intersections along the routes to school during school arrival and dismissal times. Essential functions include, but are not limited to:Assist students and their families in safely crossing streets near school zones by managing pedestrian and vehicle interactions with authority and care. Monitor pedestrian and vehicular activity at designated crossing locations.Safely stop traffic to allow pedestrians, especially school children, to cross the street.May manually operate traffic lights and make reports of accidents or unsafe traffic situations. This position may serve as a Matron for the Burlington Police Department upon recommendation by the Chief of Police and appointment by the Town Administrator.Minimum qualifications includeMinimum high school diploma or equivalency. Reliable and punctual, with a strong sense of responsibility.Available to work a flexible schedule, morning and afternoon shifts when school is in session.Willing to adjust schedule on early-release (half) days, with mid-day coverage required. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability to interact well with children, families, and members of the community.Ability to travel independently to work location.This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.Part time position, working 3 hours per day across morning (7:40-8:10A) and afternoon shifts (2:00-2:30P). Follows the public-school calendar; no work during school vacations or summer break.Salary is within Grade 2 of the BMEA contract. Pay range starts at $22.73/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $32.47/hr through annual increases. Pay is $22.00/hr when performing Matron duties. The selected candidate shall be required to submit to a full background check and will be required to satisfactorily complete Burlington Police Department’s approved training programs.Applications received by January 16, 2026 will receive first consideration.
