Job Summary
The Town of Brentwood is looking for a knowledgeable and passionate Arborist to join its Public Works Team. This role is crucial in preserving and enhancing our community’s urban forest. The Arborist will play a vital part in maintaining the health, safety, and beauty of the Town’s trees, parks, rights-of-way, and public spaces.
- Perform tree pruning, trimming, and planting to promote healthy growth and aesthetic appeal
- Inspect, evaluate, and monitor public trees for health, safety, and maintenance needs.
- Identify tree diseases, pests, and hazardous conditions.
- Develop and implement pruning, planting, treatment, and replacement plans.
- Coordinate and oversee contracted tree maintenance and removal services.
- Conduct tree risk assessments and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of public trees.
- Assist with urban forestry planning, sustainability initiatives, and grant-funded projects.
- Respond to resident concerns and inquiries regarding trees and vegetation.
- Support community tree planting and environmental stewardship programs.
- Participate in storm response and emergency operations related to fallen trees and debris.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to tree management.
- Operate bucket trucks and other aerial lifts for elevated work on trees and landscape features
- Apply GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools to map and assess tree locations and health status
- Implement tree care practices including plant pruning care, disease management, and soil health improvement
- Execute landscape maintenance tasks such as lawn care, landscaping, and general site cleanup while ensuring safety compliance
Experience
- Previous outdoor work experience in arboriculture, landscaping, or horticulture preferred
- Strong knowledge of tree identification, pruning, planting, and preservation techniques.
- Understanding of tree diseases, insects, and treatment methods.
- Familiarity with ANSI and OSHA safety standards.
- Ability to operate forestry equipment and tools safely.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with safety protocol adherence when working at heights or with heavy machinery
- Growing experience in arboriculture or related fields is advantageous
- Ability to use GIS technology for mapping and assessment purposes is a plus
- Strong understanding of landscape maintenance practices including lawn care and general horticulture
- Qualifications
Required
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in arboriculture, forestry, landscaping, or urban tree management.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work.
Preferred
- ISA Certified Arborist credential.
- ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).
- Maryland Licensed Tree Expert (LTE) certification.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Experience working in municipal government or public works operations.
