The Town of Acton is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and community-centered leader to serve as its next Council on Aging (COA) Director. Reporting to the Health and Human Services Director, this role provides vision, leadership, and operational oversight for the Town’s Council on Aging and Senior Center, ensuring the delivery of innovative, responsive, and high-quality programs and services for Acton’s older adult population. This is a key leadership position within the Town’s Human Services division, responsible for shaping the direction of services for a growing and evolving older adult community while maintaining a strong focus on accessibility, engagement, and well-being.

General Duties and Responsibilities: The COA Director leads all aspects of the department’s operations, including strategic planning, program development, staff supervision, and financial management, while advancing services that meet the diverse and evolving needs of older adults. This includes balancing traditional programming with emerging needs such as social service support, mental health awareness, and opportunities for community connection. The Director provides day-to-day leadership of the Senior Center and COA operations, fostering a collaborative, service-oriented team culture and ensuring the facility remains a welcoming, well-managed, and active community space.

Working both independently and collaboratively, the Director partners with Town leadership, regional service providers, and community organizations to strengthen and expand services, while serving as a key advisor on issues impacting older adults and contributing to broader Town initiatives and priorities. The role is responsible for developing and managing the department’s budget, including municipal funding and grant resources, and ensuring the effective and compliant use of those funds.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, or a related field and 5–7 years of experience working with older adults in a community setting is required, or a Master’s degree with 3–5 years of experience. Supervisory and management experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience as a Council on Aging Director, municipal experience, and experience developing and managing budgets are strongly preferred.

Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license required. CPR certification, ServSafe, and Allergy Awareness certifications are preferred or must be obtained.

Pay Rate: I-17; starting at $97k-112k annually.
