About Tower Semiconductor

Looking for a career path in the high tech manufacturing industry? Become part of a team focused on delivering the most exciting semiconductor technology to the world! If you enjoy working with others in a fast pace environment and are looking for an opportunity to grow your career in the high tech industry then Tower Semiconductor is the place to be!

Tower Semiconductor is a global specialty foundry leader! We specialize in manufacturing analog integrated circuits for more than 300 customers worldwide in growing markets such as automotive, medical, industrial, consumer and aerospace and defense, among others.

Job Description:

The Facilities Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, and 100% uptime of the high-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems supporting a 24/7 semiconductor manufacturing environment. This role ensures the "mission-critical" stability of the fab by managing complex electrical infrastructure—from the utility substation to the tool-level point of connection—to prevent costly power-related production "excursions.”

System Reliability: Oversee the health of the electrical grid, including Substations, Switchgear, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supplies), and Emergency Generators

Power Quality: Monitor and mitigate voltage sags (SEMI F47 compliance), harmonics, and transients that can damage sensitive lithography and etch equipment

Capacity Management: Lead projects by performing load flow and short-circuit calculations to integrate new systems into the existing infrastructure

Operational Excellence: Manage large-scale preventative maintenance (PM) schedules and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for any electrical anomalies

Operations & Maintenance: Direct and mentor technical teams in the execution of complex operations and preventative maintenance for electrical systems to ensure peak operational reliability and safety compliance.

Safety Leadership: Ensure all site activities strictly adhere to NFPA 70E (Arc Flash) and NEC standards to maintain a zero-incident workplace

Maintain ESD program for semiconductor cleanroom by conducting routine technical audits, ensuring that all grounding systems are in place a monitored meet ANSI/ESD S20.20 compliance.

This job is for you if you can:

Power Distribution & Reliability:

High/Medium Voltage Management: Oversee the substation and incoming utility feeds down to the tool-level distribution (480V/208V).

Power Quality Monitoring: Use SCADA and PMS (Power Monitoring Systems) to detect "dirty power," such as harmonics or transient surges that could damage sensitive lithography equipment.

Emergency Systems: Maintain and test massive UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) banks and diesel generators to ensure the fab can survive a grid failure.

Troubleshoot Electrical Issues:

Ability to troubleshoot electrical aspects of facilities’ systems such as motors, MCCs, breakers, lighting, etc.

Capacity Planning:

Load Calculations: When a new project takes place, calculate project peak and idle electrical loads of new or replacement equipment.

Design Review: Review electrical blueprints for capacity additions, ensuring the correct circuit breakers, cables, and grounding are in place.

Short Circuit & Coordination: Run studies to ensure that if a fault occurs, only the local breaker trips rather than taking down an entire wing of the fab.

Safety & Compliance:

Arc Flash Mitigation: Lead safety studies to determine PPE requirements for electricians and minimize energy discharge risks.

Code Adherence: Ensure all installations meet NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E, and local semi-specific safety standards (like SEMI S2).

LOTO (Lockout-Tagout): Establish and audit safety procedures for high-voltage maintenance.

Job Requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years direct work experience
  • Certifications in NFPA 70E and OSHA 10/30 required
  • You must be able to perform Short Circuit Analysis, Relay Coordination (ensuring the right breaker trips at the right time), Arc Flash Hazard Analysis.
  • Experience with Load Flow and Voltage Drop calculations to ensure tools receive stable power at the Point of Connection (POC).
  • Hands-on experience with Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) equipment including, Substations, Transformers (Dry-type and Oil-filled), Switchgear, Motor
  • Control Centers (MCCs), and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Deep understanding of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
  • Expert knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Familiarity with SEMI Standards (specifically SEMI S2 for Safety and SEMI F47 for Voltage Sag Immunity).
  • AutoCAD: Ability to draft and edit Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and P&IDs.
  • SCADA/BMS: Experience monitoring facility health
  • Ability to climb ladders and navigate the Sub-Fab (the utility basement) or the Interstitial (the space above the cleanroom ceiling).
  • Willingness to be "On-Call" for power-related emergencies that occur outside of standard business hours.
