Tovey / Shultz Construction Inc. is seeking an Estimator to join our Preconstruction and Estimating team. The Estimator plays a key role in developing budgets, detailed cost estimates, and pre-bid packages for a wide range of institutional construction projects throughout Southern California, across both public and private sectors. A candidate with hands-on field and building experience is ideal for this role.
Qualifications
- Coordinate with the Estimating Team to ensure timely rollout and execution of all estimate deliverables
- Analyze bid documents to identify risks and opportunities and effectively communicate findings to management
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs as required
- Solicit, review, and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and post-bid interviews as needed
- Perform technical and plan reviews when required
- Track and analyze actual costs versus estimated costs to maintain accurate project cost history
- Manage relationships with subcontractors, including maintaining the subcontractor database and prequalification process
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and end users in alignment with company core values and customer expectations
Requirements
- Strong construction estimating and quantity takeoff skills
- Knowledge and experience in cost management
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven budgeting experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
- Experience with Procore, Accubuild, MS Project, and Bluebeam preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial construction estimating or construction project management
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred
- Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications
- Field and building experience strongly preferred
