Overview

Touro University Medical Group (TUMG), a nonprofit faculty practice in Stockton, California, and core faculty partner for ACGME-accredited residency programs at St. Joseph’s Medical Center (Neurology, Psychiatry, Urologic Surgery), seeks a Quality Improvement and Grants Coordinator to support its mission of advancing patient care, residency education, and community health.

The Coordinator will play a key role in supporting quality improvement (QI) projects required by the ACGME Common Program Requirements, while also assisting in grant development and submission to secure funding for research and community-based health initiatives. The position will work closely with residency leadership, faculty, and residents, Touro University California leadership, staff, and faculty, and may also partner with outside agencies, for example the Health Plan of San Joaquin (Medi-Cal Advantage Plan) to support collaborative QI and community health projects.

Responsibilities

Quality Improvement

  • Collaborate with SJMC residency programs in Neurology, Psychiatry, and Urologic Surgery and IM Subspecialties in Rheumatology and Infectious Disease, to facilitate and track QI projects that fulfill ACGME Common Program Requirements.
  • Assist residents and faculty in developing project aims, identifying metrics, and implementing QI methodologies (PDSA cycles, Lean, Six Sigma, RCA, FMEA).
  • Collect and analyze QI data, develop dashboards, and prepare reports for use in Clinical Competency Committees (CCC), Program Evaluation Committees (PEC), and ACGME annual reporting.
  • Provide training resources and mentorship in QI methodology for residents and faculty.
  • Support dissemination of QI work through conference presentations, abstracts, or peer-reviewed publications.

Grants and Community Funding

  • Identify and pursue federal, state, foundation, and particular focus on community grant opportunities aligned with TUMG and TUC’s mission of serving underserved populations.
  • Lead or assist with grant proposal writing, editing, and submission, including both research-focused and community health–focused projects.
  • Support development of grant-funded programs that expand care access, health education, and wellness initiatives in medically underserved communities.
  • Maintain a grant tracking system and provide regular updates to TUMG, TUC and residency leadership.
  • Collaborate with external partners (e.g., Health Plan of San Joaquin) on community health QI and grant-funded initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Touro University California’s Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure coordination of grant submissions and compliance with Touro policies. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) is strongly preferred, with an emphasis on health equity, population health, or biostatistics.
  • 1–3 years of experience in healthcare QI, grants administration, or academic/research coordination.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in working with medically underserved populations or communities.
  • Knowledge of QI methodologies (PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma) and basic statistical analysis for healthcare quality metrics.
  • Strong skills in data organization, analysis, and reporting; familiarity with biostatistical methods preferred.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including grant writing experience.
  • Certification in Grant Writing preferred.
  • Knowledge of ACGME requirements for residency scholarly activity and QI preferred.
