Total Optical is a small optometric business located on the first floor of the THP medical facility located between Yukon and Bethany, OK.

Seeking a professional, hard working, dependable employee with experience in the optometric field, preferably with 3 years experience as an optician.

We are looking for an experienced Optician to join our team and manage the optical. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics and a passion for helping customers find the perfect eyewear. The Optician will be responsible for assisting customers with selecting frames, lenses, and other eyewear products, as well as providing advice on proper care and maintenance of eyewear. The successful candidate will also be responsible for keeping up to date with the latest trends in eyewear fashion and technology.

The optician we are seeking can multi-task and help multiple customers at once. You are also the primary employee response for glasses adjustments and checking in frames and finished jobs from the lab.

Other job duties include scheduling appointments for patients over the phone, managing jobs at the lab and maintaining an organized workspace.

OPTICIAN

Reports to: Office Manager and Optometrist

Position Overview:

The Optician is one of the customers first contact when calling or visiting the optical shop and as such presents the professional image of the practice to callers and visitors. Design, measure, fit and adapt lenses and frames for customers per written optical prescription or specification. The Optician should manage all the needs of the customers from ordering frames and lens to preparing work orders for the optical laboratory. The Optician should manage all functions of the optical shop including ordering supplies, meeting with vendors and maintaining cleanliness.

Responsibilities:

· Assist clients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions. Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.

· Operate lensometer and other tools to achieve proper fittings for patients.

Repair damaged frames.

· Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information, and performing simple bookkeeping

· Become very familiar with vision insurance benefits and coverage and be able to file exam and glasses on the vision insurance websites.

· Communicate with physician any questions or concerns about prescriptions or other eye-related issues

· Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.

· Collect & maintain records of customer prescriptions, work orders, and payments.

· Sell goods such as contact lenses, spectacles, sunglasses, and other products related to the optical.

· Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise.

· Instruct clients in how to wear and care for eyeglasses.

· Protect the confidential information of customers, co-workers & clinic policies

• Answers telephones and place calls quickly, efficiently and in a professional and friendly manner, using a multi-line telephone system.

· Maintains the appearance of the optical shop.

· Be mindful of clientele and choose frame styles that accommodate the customers

· Maintains necessary office supplies to perform business duties

· Perform & complete any job duties requested by management staff

Education Requirements:

· High School Diploma or Equivalent

· Certified Dispensing Optician preferred

Experience Requirements:

· Significant experience with basic office functions in a busy office environment

· 3 years’ experience dispensing corrective lenses

· Experience with both contact lenses and glasses

· Ability to operate lensometers and other necessary equipment

· Excellent customer service and sales skills required

Position Requirements:

The Optician must be able to:

· Deal intelligibly, pleasantly, and efficiently with customers on the telephone and in person, often doing several things at one time

· Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize & accomplish work

· Display tact and diplomacy with staff members and customers

· Understand and carry out oral and written directions

· Work almost constantly in the presence of other staff members and customers

· Be flexible in attitude and work habits

· Quickly learn how to pronounce, know the meaning of and spell commonly used ophthalmic terms

· Perform basic computer skills, type 45 words per minute and to use a 10 key calculator

· Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying records and equipment weighting to 25lbs; requires standing for extended periods of time on the optical floor helping customer's find glasses that fit their face.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
