Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled EDM Setup, Programmer, and Operator to join our precision manufacturing team. This role demands mastery of Wire and/or Sinker EDM equipment to produce tight-tolerance components for critical applications in defense, aerospace, nuclear, and medical sectors. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, high attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing and 5S methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program, set up, and operate EDM machines (Wire/Sinker/Drill EDM) to meet tight tolerances and complex geometries.
- Interpret blueprints, 3D models, and GD&T drawings to ensure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Develop efficient tooling and fixturing solutions for optimal machine performance.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing techniques to improve setup efficiency, reduce cycle times, and minimize waste.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in accordance with 5S standards.
- Conduct in-process inspections using precision measurement tools (micrometers, indicators, CMMs, etc.).
- Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to optimize process control and ensure part conformity.
- Document processes, job travelers, and quality data accurately and thoroughly.
- Train and mentor junior machinists and support team development.
Qualifications:
- 3 years experience with EDM machines
- Proficient in CAM programming (Mastercam, Esprit, or OEM software).
- Strong understanding of GD&T, surface finishes, and machining dynamics.
- Demonstrated application of Lean tools (Kaizen, SMED, standardized work).
- Familiarity with 5S and Lean Practices.
- High school diploma or GED required; advanced technical training or apprenticeship preferred.
- Experience in defense, nuclear, aerospace, or other high-reliability sectors is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiar with ERP/MES systems for tracking production.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 / AS9100 / NQA-1 quality standards.
- Experience machining exotic alloys (Inconel, Titanium, Tool Steels).
- Comfortable working in ITAR-compliant and security-sensitive environments.
