Direct Support Professional

Direct Support Professional are directly supervised by Team Coordinators. The DSP’s role is to function as a team member providing instruction and support to people with disabilities who are receiving services from TLC. DSP’s are expected to know and understand TLC’s Policies, Mission, and Person Centered Principles and how to incorporate these into daily support for people with disabilities. DSP’s are responsible for supporting individuals to participate in the full range of activities that make up their life in the community, including those activities both at home and in their neighborhoods and communities necessary to establish a lifestyle in accordance with the persons supported objectives. This position description is an example of the essential duties and functions of the job, but is not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, qualifications, physical demands and work environment conditions. 

Responsibilities 

• Supporting people to be actively involved in their community 
• Support in making and/or maintaining relationships with friends and family 
• Providing support for medical and health needs 
• Assistance in daily living including cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc. 
• Assistance as needed, depending on the individual, with physical transfers using appropriate equipment 
• Communicate respectfully, in a positive and professional manner.
• Assistance as needed on individual basis in personal hygiene 
• Occasional on the job driving may be required 
• Support in daily financial transactions 

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old at time of employment.
• Must have a high school diploma/general education diploma or higher education.
• Must be able to successfully pass a Washington State Background check *not all convictions are disqualifying. See RCW 43.43.830 or 43.43.842
• Valid Washington State Driver's License with a good driving record

• $600 hiring bonus for full-time new hires; $300 for part-time new hires
