As we continue expanding across the Mid-Atlantic region,we'relooking for skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operators to join our field teams and help deliver high-quality civil construction projects.


Job Summary

The heavy equipment operatoroperatesa variety of contractor equipment used in construction activities. Equipmentoperatedmay include but is not limited to dozers, cranes, excavators, loaders, rubber-tire equipment, etc. NOTE: Must have a flexible schedule (make work irregular or odd hours in outdoor work sites, depending upon project needs or weather), including nights and weekends.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment; verifies equipment is in safe working order, is properly fueled, and is capable for performing the assigned task (weight capacity, etc.)
  • Performs all duties in conformance toappropriate jobsite and company safety and security standards to prevent property damage and injuries. Follows laws and prevents traffic disruption.
  • Operateslarge sizeexcavator, dozer, track and rubber tire loaders, rollers, and other related equipment to perform road work, earth moving, excavation, etc.
  • Works with andassistscrewin digging ditches and trenches, (un)loading materials, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work.
  • Provides supporttosuccessful completion of construction and engineering work (road work, excavation work, materials movement, etc.)
  • Responds to signals and directions by the staff and work in coordination with them. May be involved in rigging processes.
  • Operates the equipment manually, and/or through electronic or other technical means. NOTE: Someequipment may require useof a GPS or other computer software; operators maybe requiredtoutilizeequipment and software to perform essential job functions.
  • Maintains equipment or production records, as directed.
  • Perform other duties, as and when assigned.


Qualifications

  • Must have physical ability to recognize and avoid security risks.
  • Possess physical strength tooperateheavy and power-driven equipment, plus be willing and able to get on/off equipmentto help labor and pipe crews.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others and work cooperatively in teams (including resolving basic conflicts with or without theassistanceof management).
  • Able to communicate andinteractboth verbally and written.
  • Able to perform detailed work and make effective decisions tomaintainproduction, quality andsafety under pressure and deadlines.
  • Handle emergency situations, workpressureand stress.
  • Able to solve problems.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Flexible to work during odd hours, including overtime, nightworkand weekends.
  • Possess an activedriver's license to work on the equipment (a DOT medical card or CDL may berequiredfor certain types of equipment).
  • Satisfactory driving record (as required by types of equipmentoperated).
  • 5 years of prior experienceoperatingheavy equipment. NOTE: Requirestesting by supervision.

  • Required to continuously use vision abilities, including close, distance, colorandperipheral vision, depthperceptionand the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms; use fine motor coordination and eye-hand coordination to push/pull levers and apply pressure to control; utilize feet to press pedals; sit in static positions for longperiods of time.
  • Frequently required to stand,talkand hear; lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds (with or withoutassistance).
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch,crawland smell.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee

  • Regularly worksin outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts; is exposed to vibration, wet or humid conditions, heat, and other forms of inclement weather; and is exposed to loud noise.
  • Occasionally works in high, precarious places or in excavations.
