About the Role
TBT is seeking a Business Support & Engagement Lead to support outreach, engagement, and business community analysis for a strategic planning initiative. This role focuses on stakeholder communication, small-business insights, business ecosystem understanding, and synthesizing feedback into actionable recommendations.
Work is primarily remote, with occasional, client-requested travel to the Escalon, CA area.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
ResponsibilitiesBusiness Community Engagement
- Conduct outreach to local business owners, commercial property owners, and community organizations.
- Facilitate virtual meetings, interviews, and focus groups to understand challenges, opportunities, and needs.
- Support optional in-person engagement sessions if requested by the client (travel compensated).
Small Business Support & Economic Insights
- Identify key business trends, obstacles, and opportunities within the local economy.
- Assist in developing recommendations for business support programs, mentorship frameworks, and resource connections.
- Provide insights into business attraction, retention strategies, and local entrepreneurial needs.
Stakeholder Documentation
- Summarize stakeholder input, engagement themes, and the voice-of-the-community into clear written deliverables.
- Track meeting notes, feedback logs, engagement metrics, and follow-up needs.
- Collaborate with the PM and planning team to integrate findings into the larger strategy.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with planners, analysts, and the PM to ensure engagement findings align with economic and land-use components.
- Help develop content for presentations, reports, and strategic recommendations.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in community engagement, economic development, small business support, or public outreach.
- Strong communication skills with comfort facilitating stakeholder conversations.
- Experience engaging small businesses, entrepreneurs, community groups, or advisory committees.
- Ability to translate conversations and interviews into structured insights.
- Excellent writing, note-taking, and documentation ability.
- Comfortable working with remote project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting small or rural communities.
- Background in economic development, community development, or business resource programs.
- Familiarity with local business ecosystems, business climate analysis, or entrepreneurial support.
- Experience contributing to plans, reports, or engagement summaries.
Contract Details
- Independent Contractor (1099)
- $65/hour
- Part-time, project-based
- Remote work with occasional travel to Escalon, CA if requested by the client
