DIRECTOR OF ESTIMATING — COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION

Compensation: Up to $250,000 base salary benefits
A leading New York–based General Contractor is seeking a Director of Estimating to lead and elevate its Preconstruction/Estimating department. This firm delivers large-scale commercial, institutional, healthcare, and public sector projects, and is looking for a proven leader who can drive strategy, accuracy, and innovation across all estimating operations.
Role Overview
The Director of Estimating will oversee a team of 6–8 estimators, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of budgets, conceptual estimates, GMPs, and competitive bids. This is a key executive-level position responsible for managing preconstruction workflows, collaborating with ownership, and shaping the firm’s design-build and design-assist strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6–8 estimators across multiple project sectors.
- Oversee all preconstruction and estimating operations, from conceptual budgets through GMP development.
- Manage design-build and design-assist estimating, working closely with architects, engineers, and internal leadership.
- Implement department standards, procedures, and estimating best practices.
- Lead bid strategy, subcontractor outreach, value engineering, and scope review processes.
- Coordinate preconstruction schedules, workload planning, and project handoff to operations.
- Present budgets and cost analyses to executive leadership and clients.
- Ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and consistency across all estimates and proposals.
Required Experience
- 10 years of estimating experience within commercial construction.
- Proven leadership experience overseeing a department or team of estimators.
- Strong background in preconstruction management and design-build methodology.
- Ability to run multiple large estimates simultaneously while guiding junior and senior staff.
- Expertise in conceptual estimating, subcontractor leveling, value engineering, and cost analysis.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
