Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and client-focused Tax Manager to join our growing firm. This individual will play a key role in leading tax compliance and advisory engagements, managing client relationships, and mentoring a team of tax professionals. Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Advisory
- Oversee and manage the preparation and review of complex tax returns for corporations, partnerships, individuals, and trusts
- Ensure accurate and timely compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Provide strategic tax planning and consulting services to minimize tax exposure and support clients’ financial objectives
- Advise clients on entity structure, tax-saving opportunities, and long-term planning strategies
- Identify and mitigate tax risks while ensuring compliance with evolving tax laws and regulations
Client Relationship Management
- Manage and grow a portfolio of clients, serving as the primary point of contact for all tax-related matters
- Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships through proactive communication and high-quality service delivery
- Understand clients’ businesses, industries, and financial goals to provide tailored tax solutions
- Respond to client inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner
Technical Research & Thought Leadership
- Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and develop well-supported conclusions
- Interpret and apply changes in tax legislation and communicate impacts to clients and internal teams
- Draft technical memoranda and documentation supporting tax positions and recommendations
- Serve as a technical resource for staff and senior team members
Engagement & Financial Management
- Manage the full lifecycle of engagements, including scoping, quoting, budgeting, execution, and completion
- Develop and monitor engagement budgets, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope
- Prepare, review, and approve invoices; manage billing and collections to ensure strong realization
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability across engagements
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, manage, and mentor tax seniors and staff, providing ongoing coaching and professional development
- Review work prepared by team members, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Delegate work effectively and manage team workflow to meet deadlines
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment and assist in resolving team conflicts
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and retention efforts as the firm continues to grow
Qualifications
- CPA designation preferred (or actively pursuing)
- 5 years of progressive public accounting experience with a strong focus on tax
- Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations across multiple entity types
- Proven ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to supervise and develop teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s in Taxation or related field preferred
- Proficiency in tax software such as CCH Axcess and/or ProSystem fx
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel
