About the Production Manager Role — What I’m Looking For
I’m looking for an accountable, organized leader who can deliver excellent paint jobs, lead crews and subcontractors, protect job profitability, and give homeowners an outstanding experience from start to finish.
What You’ll Own
Fundamentally, your job is to manage residential painting projects from the sales handoff through final completion, while ensuring an excellent customer experience.
- Manage the production schedule and coordinate painters, subcontractors, and customers to complete jobs on time.
- Prepare customers for their projects, including confirming scope, expectations, access, start dates, and project logistics.
- Maintain clear, proactive communication with customers throughout the project and build lasting relationships.
- Resolve customer complaints and project issues promptly and professionally.
- Ensure workmanship, job-site cleanliness, safety, and final quality meet our standards.
- Review project budgets and labor allocations before work begins; monitor actual versus estimated costs throughout production.
- Own controllable job-level gross profit, efficiency, and cost performance; flag estimating or scope issues promptly rather than absorbing them silently.
- Identify, document, and obtain approval for change orders before additional work proceeds.
- Recruit, evaluate, onboard, and develop reliable painting crews and subcontractors as capacity needs grow.
- Complete job-costing reviews and use lessons learned to improve production systems and performance.
- Maintain accurate project records, schedules, status updates, and clear handoffs with sales and leadership.
What Success Looks Like

- Job-level gross profit meets agreed targets for costs and decisions within your control.
- Customers receive consistent communication, quality work, and timely issue resolution.

- You have excellent customer service skills and enjoy creating great experiences for homeowners.
- You pay attention to detail, maintain high standards, and communicate proactively.
- You’re organized, resilient, coachable, and committed to continuous improvement.
