What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer position at Tool North Inc?
We’re looking for a Controls Engineer to design, develop, and support control systems for industrial equipment and automation projects. Primary emphasis will be developing, launching, and supporting PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems, collaborating closely with mechanical engineers, machine builders, and end users to bring reliable, efficient systems to our customers.
What You’ll Do
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems
- Support system commissioning, testing, and installation
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement improvements
- Provide on-site or remote support as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley & Siemens)
- Familiarity with HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and industrial networks (IO-Link)
- Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in industrial or manufacturing environments
- Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Field startup or commissioning experience
Nice to Have
- Experience with CNC, motion control, laser marking, or vision systems
- Familiarity with robotic systems & programming (FANUC & ABB)
