POSITION: 1.0 FTE Teacher Aide

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This title is employed for positions that are created for the
main purpose of relieving school teachers of that part of their duties, which, while related to the teaching process, can be performed by non-professional personnel. The duties of this class differ from those of Teaching Assistants who provide instructional services to students and require a certification. Incumbents assist school teachers in physical care tasks and health-related activities as appropriate and assist with behavioral/management needs under the supervision of the classroom teacher and do not require a certification. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
1. Provides physical care (toileting, diapering, feeding, hygiene, transfers from chair to equipment)
2. Assists in implementing behavior intervention plans and classroom behavior plans
3. Assists students in properly and accurately using electronic devices
4. Reads to students
5. Assists students in “special” area classes (physical education, music, art, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech)
6. Assists in proctoring and tasks related to the administration of examinations
7. May assist teachers in the correction of test papers, recording of grades, maintaining files and preparing reports
8. May assist in the computer lab
9. May perform incidental clerical duties including keyboarding.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge or good background in working with students with disabilities where specialized duties are involved; ability to establish good relationships and work with children and others in a cooperative manner; ability to maintain compassionate, patient and caring attitude while remaining focused on desired outcome; good organizational skills; ability to multi-task; resourcefulness in conducting above described activities indirectly related to teaching process; neat personal appearance; ability to maintain discipline, tact; courtesy, and good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of being able to dead lift 25 or more pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet all of the following:
1. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma;
2. Childcare experience or experience or knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved, and
3. Strong reading and computational skills
