What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special education aide position at Tomball ISD?
Primary Purpose :
Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting.
Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
Qualifications :
Education / Certification :
Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements
Special Knowledge and Skills :
Ability to work with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of general office equipment
Minimum Experience :
Prior experience working with children

Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors :
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds;
climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior.
