What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Specialist - Construction position at Tomball ISD?
Primary Purpose:
Provide timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services required for construction projects. May include sourcing suppliers, negotiating pricing, and coordinating deliveries to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Minimum Experience:
Two years purchasing or accounts payable experience
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to multitask
Proficient in Microsoft Office w/ a high level of skill in Excel Preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Projects and Development
- Support operational efficiency by maintaining a steady flow of essential construction resources.
- Controls costs through strategic procurement and effective negotiation.
- Obtain and analyze quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure optimal cost, quality, and delivery terms.
- Maintain updated records of purchased products, delivery information and invoicing.
- Works closely with the Coordinator of Construction and Director of Projects and Development to track project progress.
- Monitor and manage construction budgets to ensure alignment with project costs.
- Facilitate the processing of all construction invoices upon receipt in a timely manner.
- Prepare budget amendments as needed to facilitate project completion.
- Observe all professional and ethical standards of conduct in performance of duties.
- Perform all duties in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Demonstrate initiative to develop needed skills applicable to performance of assigned duties.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Coordinator of Construction.
Professional Growth & Development
- Attend workshops/seminars that are made available for staff development.
- Maintain technical training on new software.
Working Conditions:
- Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Occasional lifting and moving of moderate to heavy objects.
- Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
- District/light travel.
- Some extended work hours may occasionally be required.
