What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Washer/Utility Worker - Transportation position at Tomball ISD?
Primary Purpose:
Assist in maintaining a regularly serviced fleet of trucks, vans, buses, and district equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and economical transportation services
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Valid Texas Driver’s License/CDL-Class A, B, or C
Minimum Experience
1 year shop experience
Any previous automotive/small engine mechanic experience preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to operate a computer
Ability to document work performed and charge out parts utilized
Basic knowledge of automotive mechanics
Ability to visually inspect and service vehicles
Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in servicing vehicles
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Wash all district vehicles/equipment as necessary
- Fuel vehicles as needed
- Check tire pressure, oils, and fluids on district fleet vehicles
- Assist Mechanics with vehicle drive-ups
- Pickup/Deliver parts & supplies
- Empty waste cans as necessary
- Document work performed/labor hours in Fleet Maintenance Software
- Assist mechanic on road calls for disabled district vehicles when necessary
- Keep workstation and adjacent areas clean
- Pick up trash around the Transportation Center as necessary
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
- Follow safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately

Equipment Used:
Small hand tools, oil/fluid dispensers, air compressors, fueling system, tire changer, radio, pressure washer, vehicle lift, and forklift
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
