Ironworker Apprentice

Position Overview
Tomar Construction LLC is seeking a motivated and dependable Ironworker Apprentice to join our growing team. This is a company-sponsored apprenticeship opportunity designed for individuals who wish to build a long-term career in the ironworking trade.
Successful candidates will receive paid On-the-Job Training (OJT) under the supervision of experienced Ironworkers and will be enrolled in an approved Related Technical Instruction (RTI) apprenticeship program. This structured combination of practical field experience and technical instruction provides a clear pathway toward becoming a Journeyman Ironworker.
We are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a genuine desire to learn a skilled trade.
Company-Sponsored Apprenticeship Program
Our apprenticeship program combines practical work experience with formal technical instruction, allowing apprentices to earn while they learn.
Through this structured program, apprentices will:
· Receive paid On-the-Job Training (OJT) under experienced Ironworkers.
· Be enrolled in an approved Related Technical Instruction (RTI) apprenticeship program.
· Develop skills in structural steel and aluminum fabrication, erection, welding, rigging, blueprint reading, trade mathematics, and OSHA safety standards.
· Progress through a structured wage schedule based on apprenticeship milestones, accumulated OJT hours, RTI completion, and demonstrated proficiency.
· Build the qualifications necessary to become a Journeyman Ironworker.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Assist in the fabrication, assembly, installation, and welding of structural steel and aluminum components.
· Learn to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and project specifications.
· Utilize measuring and layout tools to ensure accurate fabrication and installation.
· Operate forklifts and other construction equipment safely (training provided).
· Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable building codes.
· Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
· Work collaboratively with supervisors and crew members to complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
· Perform physically demanding tasks in both shop and field environments.
Qualifications
Required
· Valid New Jersey Driver's License (Class D).
· Reliable transportation to and from the workplace and project sites.
· Strong interest in pursuing a career as an Ironworker.
· Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
· Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.
· Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, and working at heights.
Preferred
· Basic knowledge of welding, cutting, or metal fabrication.
· Experience using hand tools and power tools.
· Forklift operating experience.
· Welding certifications are a plus, but not required.
