Technical Designer

Location: Jersey City, NJ
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $50,000–$65,000 annually, based on experience

Tom Carroll Scenery is a custom fabrication shop specializing in theater and commercial work. We build unique, detail-driven scenery, props, and displays for Broadway, theater, museums, retail installations, trade shows, television, and live events. Our shop environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and deadline-oriented, with multiple projects moving simultaneously under tight lead times.

We are seeking a Technical Designer to prepare submittal drawings and build plates for our carpentry crew while working closely with project management to ensure projects move efficiently from design through fabrication.

Reports To: Project Management / Vice President

Responsibilities

• Prepare submittal drawings for client review and approval

• Create build plates and shop drawings for fabrication

• Coordinate with project managers and shop personnel throughout the production process

• Revise drawings as projects evolve

• Develop practical construction details for fabrication

• Assist in maintaining drawing accuracy and project documentation

Qualifications

• Proficiency in AutoCAD required

• Experience with scenic fabrication, exhibits, architectural millwork, or custom fabrication preferred

• Ability to read and interpret design drawings

• Strong organizational and communication skills

• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
