ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR - RADIATION ONCOLOGY SERVICES

General Summary


The Administrative Director of Radiation Oncology Services is responsible for the overall administrative, operational, financial, and strategic management of the Radiation Oncology service line. This role partners closely with physician leadership to ensure high‑quality, compliant, efficient, and financially sustainable radiation oncology services delivered within a physician group practice setting.


The Director serves as the primary administrative liaison between physicians, clinical staff, finance, compliance, and executive leadership, with accountability for day‑to‑day operations and long‑term service line performance.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently arrives at work on time and adheres to regular work schedule.
  • Direct and oversee all non‑clinical operations of Radiation Oncology services, including scheduling workflows, patient access, throughput, and coordination with Medical Oncology and referring providers.
  • Ensure timely initiation of treatment, optimal machine utilization, and efficient episode‑based care delivery.
  • Partner with the Medical Director to support clinical protocols, coverage models, and staffing plans.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the Radiation Oncology operating budget, capital budget, and multi‑year financial projections.
  • Analyze volumes, payer mix, reimbursement, and contribution margins; identify variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee capital planning related to linear accelerators, vaults, IT systems, and major equipment service contracts.
  • Support development of physician incentive models tied to compliant productivity, quality, and financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, including Stark Law, Anti‑Kickback Statute, CMS billing rules, and Ohio Department of Health requirements.
  • Oversee accreditation and regulatory readiness (e.g., ACR, state licensure, radiation safety programs).
  • Coordinate with Compliance and Legal on audits, policies, and corrective action plans.
  • Serve as the administrative partner to Radiation Oncology physicians and Medical Oncology leadership.
  • Facilitate alignment around referral processes, capacity planning, block time models, and growth initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison between Radiation Oncology and executive leadership, finance, HR, IT, and facilities.
  • Lead service line strategy, including market analysis, referral development, capacity expansion, and new technology evaluation.
  • Support development of business cases for new equipment, services, or sites of care.
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient experience, care coordination, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead hiring, training, performance management, and professional development of administrative staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and cross‑training to support operational resilience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Required:

  • Consistently arrives at work in appropriate/professional attire.
  • Completes all tasks within established time frame.
  • Adheres to all clinic policies and procedures.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive administrative or operational leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Working knowledge of Radiation Oncology programs.
  • Prior supervisory or service line leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a complex healthcare service line, preferably in oncology or advanced imaging.
  • Strong working knowledge of healthcare finance, budgeting, and capital planning.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with physicians in a group practice environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance requirements related to ancillary services.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.

 

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or related field). 

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree (MHA, MBA, or similar).
  • Experience specifically in Radiation Oncology operations, including linear accelerator planning and utilization.
  • Familiarity with in‑office ancillary (DHS) models and physician compensation structures.
  • Experience supporting accreditation, audits, and regulatory inspections.
