JOB TITLE:  Custodian (1.0 FTE)

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal and Maintenance Supervisor

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Under general supervision performs a variety of custodial duties and general care of school building(s) and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe and clean school building for students, staff and community.  Full job description available upon request.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent, or a thorough working knowledge of custodial work, gained in at least six months of experience, and/or a combination of education and experience.
  2. Criminal history clearance (background and HB 2062).
  3. Previous experience working in a sanitation or custodial position.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Cleans areas as assigned (i.e. rooms, halls, offices, rest rooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.
  2. Washes windows, white boards, walls, doors and baseboards.
  3. Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting.
  4. Keeps walks, parking areas, grounds and entrances clear and clean of debris.
  5. Washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms and locker rooms, sinks, fixtures, panels and drinking fountains.
  6. Checks and stocks bathroom supplies.
  7. Reacts to change in schedule(s) productively.
  8. Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in a safe and appropriate manner, picks up trash and responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members with supervisor approval.
  9. Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings, athletic events and other District needs, as assigned.
  10. Unlocks doors and windows, turns on lights and prepares buildings for start of day and/or locks doors and windows, turns off lights and secures buildings at end of day.
  11. Makes minor repairs (i.e., sinks, tiles, lockers, change light bulbs, etc.).
  12. Empties and cleans waste containers.
  13. Maintains building security and reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
  14. Interacts thoughtfully with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  15. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours, as required.
  16. Attends work regularly and is punctual.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is a 12 month employee, 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE). Salary per OSEA negotiated agreement (Code 10- $22.07 - $25.45/hr starting wage) with excellent benefits including Medical, Dental and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement.  Paid time off includes one sick day per month worked, three personal days, and five vacation days pro-rated per school year.  Benefit information can be found at https://www.seaside.k12.or.us/hr/benefits.
