Qualifications: Minimum high school diploma or GED required, and eligible to become a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), Certified Family Support Specialist (CFSS), or Certified Peer Recovery Specialist-Transition Aged Youth (CPRS-TAY). Nonprofit experience preferred.


Skills & Knowledge Required:
  • Knowledge of the System of Care core values and guiding principles.
  • Knowledge of the service area and of resources for children with emotional and behavioral issues and their families.
  • Knowledge of the service area and of resources for adults with seriously persistent mental illnesses.
  • Knowledge of the developmental, mental, emotional, relational, and social needs of children, youth, and young adults.
  • Capable of mobilizing diverse populations.
  • Personal experience navigating systems impacting children, youth, and young adults who have emotional/behavioral disorders.
  • Knowledge and experience navigating child-serving and adult serving systems.
  • Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner to diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving/creative thinking skills.
  • Experience in public speaking and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop formal and natural support systems and access needed resources.
  • Basic computer skills and writing skills.
  • Access to reliable home internet service required.

Duties & Responsibilities/Principal Activities:
  • Mobilize communities to effectively respond to youth, young adult, adult and family emotional and behavioral health needs
  • Manage outreach efforts utilizing a broad range of techniques and strategies including TNV website, social media, and email communication.
  • Design and implement outreach and engagement strategies that increase the number of individuals enrolled in service delivery efforts.
  • Serves as an active leader on established community coalitions and assists communities without coalitions to establish effective ones.
  • Plan and implement community engagement outreach activities.
  • Identify and build professional relationships with local government and community-based organizations that serve children and families.

  • Connect parents and community partners together to share their knowledge, skills and resources with a common goal of improving children’s mental health.

  • Provide community training and education events in the community to bring awareness to the system of care and TN Voices programs.

  • Establish local community teams to promote system of care principles and core values through education and training.
  • Coordinate training opportunities for youth, young adults, adults and families, community stakeholders and other agencies.
  • Create and participate in outreach and educational activities within the community.
  • Complete Community Engagement Specialist Monthly Report and others as needed in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings assigned which may include local and regional mental health planning councils and local collaborative agency meetings.
  • Ensure that TNV conforms to CARF standards applicable to the services provided.
  • Other duties and/or tasks as assigned.
