What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Peer Support Specialist position at Greater Outreach Services, LLP?
We are looking for a Peer Support Specialist to join our team and help support individuals living with mental health or substance use challenges. This role is ideal for someone with lived experience in recovery who is passionate about helping others on their own journey.
We also have openings for individuals that has available clients to bring with them to join our agency.
Applicant MUST be currently CERTIFIED in the State of North Carolina as a Peer Support Specialist and have clients for active caseload for Medicaid recipients only.
Responsibilities:
- Offer peer-to-peer support and encouragement based on shared experience
- Assist clients in identifying goals and building recovery plans
- Support clients in navigating services, attending appointments, and accessing community resources
- Promote hope, self-advocacy, and empowerment
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality
- Document services and interactions according to agency standards
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and attend regular team meetings
Qualifications:
- Must have personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery
- Certified Peer Support Specialist (or willingness to become certified)
- High school diploma or GED required
- Ability to model recovery-oriented behavior and coping strategies
- Good communication and time management skills
- Reliable transportation may be required for some community-based work
Preferred:
- Experience working in behavioral health or community support settings
- Comfortable using email and basic technology (electronic records, notes, etc.)
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus
