Principal Engineer – Aerospace

Location: Kalamazoo, MI 49009

Salary: $100,000 – $130,000/year

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new or enhanced equipment, materials, products, processes, and engineering methods using advanced engineering principles.
• Evaluate technical feasibility, project costs, resources, schedules, and business impact.
• Provide technical expertise in manufacturing methods, materials, and system performance to support strategic planning.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to solve technical challenges and support multiple programs.
• Prepare and present technical proposals, recommendations, and project updates to internal leadership and external customers.
• Perform engineering analysis, testing, and validation for new or modified systems, products, and processes.
• Document results, findings, and recommendations through detailed technical reports.
• Analyze research, testing, and operational data to establish performance standards.
• Assess engineering solutions where data may be limited or requires verification.
• Research and implement new technologies to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and enhance capabilities.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives by developing better tools, systems, and processes.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, aerospace regulations, and engineering procedures.
• Lead multiple complex engineering projects while maintaining timelines, quality, and delivery goals.
• Act as a technical advisor and subject matter expert for leadership teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical knowledge sharing across teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical/Electronics, Systems Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 10 years of engineering experience in complex technical environments.
• Strong understanding of engineering design, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.
• Aerospace industry experience preferred.
• Proven experience leading technical projects, engineering analysis, and product development.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and best engineering practices.
• Proficiency with engineering tools, data analysis software, and project management systems.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to leadership and clients.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical teams.
