Responsibilities and Duties
- Operates a semi-truck according to applicable state and federal transportation laws.
- Transports loads safely and in a timely manner over required route, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
- Deftly maneuvers truck and trailer into loading and unloading areas; follows loading crew signals.
- Maintains signed invoices, shipping bills of lading, and other required paperwork; delivers documentation to shipping office or other appropriate staff when delivery route is complete.
- Facilitates routine service on trucks, which may include checking oil, water, gasoline, and air; reports maintenance malfunctions to Manager.
- Arranges trailers in shipping yards for optimum loading patterns.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Speak and read English to:
- Converse with the general public;
- Understand traffic signs and signals;
- Respond to official questions; and
- Make legible entries on reports and records including logs and pre-trips.
- Drive the vehicle safely. Including vehicles with a manual transmission.
- Have only one valid commercial motor vehicle operator’s license issued by one State or jurisdiction.
- Pass a driver’s road test or equivalent.
- Must hold required commercial driver’s license appropriate for weight of vehicle to be operated.
- Must pass background and drug testing as required by federal and/or state department(s) of transportation regulations as well as MVR.
Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting in a trailer cab for long periods of time.
- Must be able to climb in and out of cab frequently, up to 50 times per day.
- Must be physically qualified to drive a motor vehicle under the rules in Sec. 391.15
- Must hold a valid CDL
